Born to drum.
Born to lead.
But too often erased from the record.
Renegade Queens is a documentary preserving the untold story of women in the Bay Area’s rich jazz and salsa scenes.
And we’re in a race against time to save the footage before it disappears.
The window is closing.
Negatives curl and crack.
VHS tapes melt.
Hard drives fail.
The history of women in Latin music is sitting in closets, garages, and attics across the Bay Area.
And every year more of it disappears.
If we don’t rescue it now, it will be gone forever.
For decades, women helped build the Latin music scene.
They performed.
They taught.
They organized concerts.
They kept the rhythm alive.
And yet most archives preserved the men.
Tito Puente.
Ray Barretto.
Beny Moré.
Their legacy is safe in libraries.
But the women?
Much of their history was never preserved.
Until now.
