THROUGH THE LOVE, GUIDANCE, AND FIERCE SUPPORT ONLY KINDRED SPIRITS CAN OFFER, STRUGGLES DISSOLVE INTO COLLECTIVE STRENGTH
The Film
RENEGADE QUEENS is a groundbreaking documentary celebrating the resilience, artistry, and trailblazing spirit of women in Salsa and Latin jazz. Through intimate performances, behind-the-scenes stories, and powerful interviews, the film high-lights the San Francisco Bay Area musicians who have redefined the genre while breaking barriers in a male-dominated industry for over 50 years.
This feature-length film shines a light on three generations of women musicians: a young percussionist and bandleader recovering from a career-threatening injury; a seasoned vocalist coping with a devastating loss; and a veteran drum master preserving her legacy. When they come together to rehearse for one magical concert, they create electrifying music, new bonds, and a stronger sense of community.
“I didn’t do this to become a trailblazer. I did it because I was in love with the drum.”
RENEGADE QUEENS is slated to have its debut in 2027 – Stay tuned for updates!
